“Moment of Arrival” original oil on canvas
The Moment of Arrival: From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be is an oil painting on canvas, sized 80 x 110 cm, that reflects my personal journey and dream of making this vision a reality. The painting symbolizes the transition from a modern lifestyle where many people spend long hours indoors, detached from the outside world and their imagination. I, too, lived this way until I made the decision to move to Mexico.
This decision felt like opening a gateway, or a portal, to new possibilities. The stairway in the painting represents that journey, leading to Mexico, where a Chihuahua stands at the bottom, welcoming me. The Chihuahua holds personal significance as well—it’s not only a symbol of Mexico but was our family pet, who passed away about 10 years ago. Its presence in the painting feels like a guide into this new chapter of life.
The city in the background is inspired by Guanajuato, known for its vibrant colors and dense architecture. While painting it, I felt the challenge of fully expressing the city’s lively spirit and using as many colors as I wanted. The contrast between the colorful Guanajuato and the colder, more muted tones of my previous city reflects the differences between my past life and the new possibilities that Mexico represents.
